As I am still catching up with all that has happened during the past few months, it was hard to decide what to share with you this week! After some serious consideration, I decided to tell you all about my extraordinary Hollywood Movie collaboration!
That’s right, I have collaborated with the team of one of the most talented producers in Hollywood – Sofia Coppola, to promote her latest movie: The Beguiled.
This project was one of the most extraordinary ones I have participated in so far. This is mainly as I have not previously considered it as a possibility for a fashion blogger to promote a movie! However, the idea behind their project was very original! The Beguiled team has created a special tank with the slogan #Vengeful Bitches, which arguably represents the personality of the female characters in the movie. The purpose of the tank was that by wearing it I can create an outfit impersonating the main idea behind the movie!
The Beguiled was premiered on May 24 at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival and was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or in its main competition section, where Coppola won the Best Director award, becoming only the second woman to do so.
The main characters, Miss Martha Farnsworth and Corporal John McBurney, are played by one of my favourite actors Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell. Thus, I was extremely honoured to work with the team of such an incredible movie, featuring some of the most talented Hollywood actors.
The action takes place in a girls school in Virginia during the American Civil War. By 1864, almost all of the students, teachers, and slaves have left. Only teacher Edwina Morrow and five students stay with the director of the school Miss Farnsworth. While out in the woods searching for mushrooms, Amy, one of the students, comes across John McBurney, a corporal in the Union Army who was wounded in the leg during battle and has since deserted the battlefield. Amy brings McBurney to the school where he falls unconscious. The women lock McBurney in one of the rooms while Miss Farnsworth tends to his wounds. All the women and girls in the school are immediately fascinated by the handsome man.Soon John’s appearance and his numerous flirts with the girls leads to jealousy and betrayal.
I am not going to tell you what happens at the end so I don’t spoil it for you, but as you can imagine the one that plays with the fire ends up burnt!
According to me, the key message of the movie is that you should not play with people’s feelings if you don’t want to get hurt too, and of course, men should never ever underestimate the power of women!!
So to impersonate the female characters in the movie I combined my #VengfulBitches tank with a bit of extra bitchy attitude (just joking)!! I wore the black tank with a white skirt, in order to represent the contrast in the women nature! The white represents their good intentions when they took care of the wounded soldier, while the black represents the anger once they were betrayed!! I chose a lace skirt with a knee length, as it gives a bit of a vintage feeling and relates better to the century when the action takes place! The heels I chose are one of my favourite pairs, as they look extremely feminine and represent accurately the gentle nature of a woman, always look after the well-being of her family and the people around her! I also used statement accessories and a red lipstick to represent the strength of the woman. I finished the look with my favourite Furla bag, as it is also half black – half white.
The Beguiled is certainly one of the best movies I have seen recently, and I would recomend you to watch it too! Would love to hear your opinions about the move, and if you think I have interpreted well the feelings and the characters in the pictures I have created for this collaboration!
Love,
Tina J xx
