As I have mentioned in my last post, I travel to Mallorca quite often! AAs I am mainly based in Barcelona and the flight to Mallorca is only 20 minutes, it is the perfect get away from the busy city life!
I am totally in love with this island and the many pretty spots it has. In this post, I will tell you more about one of my favorite towns – Soller.
Soller is an old town in the north west coast of Mallorca. It is linked to the rest of the island by the historic railway, the Ferrocarril de Sóller, and by a highway with a tunnel, to the Majorcan capital of Palma. The Ferrocaril was built on the profits from the orange and lemon trade and completed in 1911.
The central square Plaça Constitució which is surrounded by cafés and a fountain is a must see location. Another famous thing in Soller is the wooden tram, which passes through the Plaça on its way to the port of Soller. The town is 3km away from the Port of Soller, which has fantastic views over the mountain on one side and the ocean on the other. Also, the best restaurants are located in the Port. It is the perfect location for a walk and a nice dinner. If you have not arrived to Soller with a car, it would be a great opportunity to take the tram from the placa to the port. Once at the port, watch out for the beautiful Mallorcan wooden boats.
Another must-see spot in the town is the church of Sant Bartomeu facing the east side of the Plaça. The building of the Banco de Sóller is also remarkable. Built in 1912 in modernist style by the Catalan architect Joan Rubió i Bellver, a follower of Antoni Gaudí, it stands out with its defining ironwork,
I would recommend you to visit Soller on a Saturday, as there is a food and clothes/accessories market where you can find amazing local products at great prices. However, if you want to avoid the crowds try to go during the week.
There are many pretty spots for walks around the surroundings of the town, where you can see the beautiful gardens with the famous orange trees from Soller. The mountain near by is also full of beautiful little towns and great paths for walks in the nature.
