I am living in Barcelona for just over a year now and I have already managed to visit most places in Calatylia. What I love about the region is that its nature is super diverse. Only 2 hours drive from Barcelona and you are in the mountains where you can even go skiing in the winter. At the same time, as we all know, Catalonia is famous for its beaches and beautiful seaside towns. The beaches of Costa Brava for instance and their crystal clear waters are well known all over the world.
There are many places which I love in Catalonia, but there is this one town very close to Barcelona which I love the most. Its name is Sitges!
Sitges is only 40 minutes away from central Barcelona and it is the perfect get away from the city. I love spending there my Saturday or Sunday when I am not abroad.
Why do I like Sitges so much? It is a really pretty little town with great restaurants on the seaside and beautiful little streets. It also has great shops and the atmosphere there is just amazing.
It can get very busy during the summer though, as a lot of people go there for holidays. It is right on the beach and it has fantastic views over the ocean. It is also full of palm trees, which makes it even more exotic and charming, also explaining why it is often referred to as the Saint-Tropez of Spain.
The town is also well known for its Film Festival and Carnival. It also hosts the Barcelona-Sitges Vintage Car Rally, which I want to see next year!
Despite the fact that the town has only 26 thousand inhabitants, it is extremely international. Around 35% of its permanent inhabitants are from the Netherlands, the UK, France and Scandinavia. The night life there is also great, as the town has many bars and clubs in the centre.
In case, you are visiting Barcelona and you have a free day, do not hesitate to visit Sitges! You can easily get there by train from the central station in Barcelona. Also, the beaches there are much nicer than the ones in Barcelona.
Love,
