As I am sure you have already seen from my insta stories, aparft from all fashion shows which I attended during London Fashion Week, I managed to also enjoy some fine dining in one of the best restaurants in town! As a person who lived in London for many years, it was not hard to decide which places I have to visit during my recent London trip!
One of my favourite restaurants in London, Galvin at Windows, has launched a seven-course Korean tasting menu for the summer. Once, I heard about the new exciting tasting menu, it was impossible to not go try it!
Galvin at Windows was opened in 2006 and only 4 years later it was awarded its first Michelin Star! Located on the 52nd floor of the Hilton at Park Lane, the restaurant offers much more than just excellent food!
It has one of the best views over Hyde Park and central London, which further explains why I love the place so much! In addition, the design of the space and the service is absolutely amazing! To top it off, the restaurant also has a separate bar area, where you can enjoy a cocktail with a view in a very relaxed atmosphere. What I also love about the restaurant is that the Chef regularly changes the tasting menu!
The new Korean Tasting Menu which launched in July and will finish at the end of September is a combination of Korean and French flavours, specially prepared by Head Chef Joo Won and his team.
Since Won became head chef in 2013 elements of Korean cuisine have been more regularly used on some of the dishes of the menu, including kimchi (pickled spicy vegetables), aged soy sauce and seaweed. With the new Korean tasting menu, however, the Korean flavours and influences are turned up a notch or two.
The incredible flavour combinations, cooking techniques and approach to plating, which we experienced during our Korean tasting menu were inspired by a trip to South Korea when Joo travelled with Chris Galvin and Fred Sirieix to his home country and shared with them some of the foods and flavours that have been such an important part of his life.
Unfortunately, I have never been to Korea, but with the incredible menu at Galvin at Windows, I managed to get a real feel of the Korean cuisine and even managed to tried a typical Korean beer.
We had the Menu Dégustation deluxe, including 7 dishes, the details of which you can read here! The dishes also came with pairing wine, most of which was French! I cannot explain to you how much I love French wine, and combined with the Korean dishes it was an experience I would repeat any day! The deluxe menu also includes cocktails specially prepared with typical Korean alcohol, which I absolutely loved, as they were very different from any cocktails I have tried before.
After the dinner, we headed to the bar, to enjoy a bit more of the stunning view and to explore the cocktails menu.
Below, you can find pictures from the dinner and get a feel of how amazing the menu and the atmosphere really was.
I have always wanted to go to this place! Will make sure I visit next time I go to London
I have never tried Korean food, but these dishes look amazing!
